X3850 M2 Models with x4  2.5 SAS  Drive bays
 The x3850 M2 features four 2.5-inch small form factor drive bays that support hot-swap SAS drives totaling up to 548GB.  All system x3850 M2 comes standard with a remote supervisor adapter II and redundant power supplies. Most 7141 models has been discontinued, replaced with the 7233 Models.   The below 7141 models Left in place for reference only!!

  System x3850 M2 memory options
 The x3850 M2 supports up to 256GB of memory using 4 Memory Cards, each card has a total of 8 DIMM sockets . 

Each memory port out of the memory controller has a peak read throughput of 4.26 GBps and
a peak write throughput of 2.13 GBps. DIMMs are installed in matched pairs, two-way
interleaving, to ensure the memory port is fully utilized. Peak throughput for each PC2-5300
DDR2 DIMM is 4.26 GBps.  Because there are eight memory ports, spreading installed DIMMs across all four memory
ports can improve performance. The eight independent memory ports provide simultaneous access to memory. With four memory cards installed, and eight DIMMs in each card, peak read memory bandwidth is 34.1 GBps and peak write bandwidth is 17.1 GBps.

 System x3850 M2 High-Performance Xeon Processors Options
 The x3850 M2 models use either the Intel Xeon Processor E7210 dual-core or the Intel Xeon
Processor E7300 series quad-core Tigerton processors. All models of the x3850 M2 have two processors installed. Two or four processors are supported. Installed processors must be identical in model, speed, and cache size. Using three processors in one system is not supported.

TWO additional processor may be installed, providing a maximum of FOUR.   All processors must be identical in type, speed and cache size.

The x3850 M2 has a disk subsystem that is comprised of an LSI Logic 1078 Serial Attached
SCSI (SAS) controller and four internal 2.5-inch SAS hot-swap drive bays. The x3850 M2
supports internal RAID-0 and RAID-1. The optional ServeRAID-MR10k, part number
43W4280, provides additional RAID levels and a 256 MB battery-backed cache.

 64-bit Adapter Slots
The x3850 M2 provides Seven x8 ("by 8") 4GBps 64-bit PCI-E (PCI Express) adapters standard. Each is capable of supporting x1/x4/x8 adapters at full speed. All Slots are half length.  PCI-Express is a high-performance, low-latency, next-generation serial I/O bus that is rapidly replacing the older parallel PCI and PCI-X buses. A x8 PCI-E adapter offers approximately four times the maximum throughput of a 133MHz PCI-X adapter. There are no PCI-X riser cards available.

The IBM XpandOnDemand Scalability Kit contains the following items:

Scalability cable 3.08m

Larger cable management arm (replaces the existing arm to allow the easy installation of the scalability cables).

ScaleXpander chip (transforms the x3850 M2 into a x3950 M2).

x3950 M2 bezel (replaces the existing bezel, and shows that the x3850 M2 has the kit installed and is now functionally equal to an x3950 M2).

The IBM ScaleXpander Option Kit is only required for an x3850 M2 that you want to convert it into a x3950 M2 and enable it to scale. The x3950 M2 already comes with the necessary components (including a scalability cable) to be able to form an N-way configuration and therefore does not require this option.

The ROK program authorizes qualifying IBM Distributors to buy selected IBM OEM licenses of select Microsoft Windows Server operating systems for installation on IBM System x and BladeCenter Servers or for sale to IBM Business Partners (Resellers) for installation on IBM System x and BladeCenter Servers. Distributors can also install the ROK themselves if requested by the Reseller or if they want to act as a Reseller in order to sell IBM System x and Bladecenter Servers installed with the ROK directly to customers.  This program delivers one-stop shopping and flexibility to our distributors, allowing them to buy their Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and IBM System x and BladeCenter servers from one source.
